This role is for a Data Engineer on the Worldwide Grocery Store Tech (WWGST) Data & Analytics team. The primary focus is on architecting data infrastructures and developing advanced data pipelines. The team is described as an 'AI-first team' aiming to deliver analytics using AI in 2026. The role involves collaborating with Data Scientists to implement advanced analytics algorithms and machine learning, but the core responsibilities are data engineering.

What you'd actually do

  1. Help build the infrastructure that powers data-driven decision making. Utilize software engineering best practices, data management fundamentals, data storage principles, and recent advances in distributed systems.
  2. Manage and optimize usage of cloud computing resources, particularly on AWS, to support data infrastructure.
  3. Collaborate with Business Intelligence Engineers to establish best practices for data reporting, integrity, testing, validation, and documentation.
  4. Collaborate with Data Scientists to implement advanced analytics algorithms that exploit our rich data sets for statistical analysis, prediction, clustering and machine learning.
  5. Drive the architecture and technology decisions that enable a world-class user experience.

Skills

Required

  • 3+ years of data engineering experience
  • Experience with data modeling
  • Experience with warehousing
  • Experience building ETL pipelines

Nice to have

  • Experience with AWS technologies like Redshift, S3, AWS Glue, EMR, Kinesis, FireHose, Lambda, and IAM roles and permissions
  • Experience with non-relational databases / data stores (object storage, document or key-value stores, graph databases, column-family databases)
