Data Science Strategy Lead

This role is focused on defining and executing the Data Science strategy within Microsoft's Cloud Supply Chain organization. It involves setting long-term vision, creating roadmaps, evaluating initiatives, and articulating the business value of data science and AI capabilities. The role requires strong communication and influence skills to drive cross-organizational execution and integrate insights into business outcomes. While AI is mentioned as a capability, the core function is strategic planning and product management of data science initiatives, not direct AI/ML model development or deployment.

What you'd actually do

  1. Formulate Data Science Strategy: Set the long term Data Science strategy, defining where to intentionally invest, differentiate, and deprioritize to maximize sustained business value.
  2. Develop Multi Year Vision and Roadmap: Create a multi year vision and roadmap for Data Science capabilities, grounded in the voice of the customer, incorporating external perspectives such as industry trends, emerging technologies, best practices, and the voice of customer.
  3. Shape Portfolio Level Decisions: Establish and apply frameworks to evaluate Data Science initiatives, making explicit stop, continue, pause, or pivot recommendations based on strategic priorities.
  4. Strategic Business Integration and Value Framing: Define and strengthen the engagement and decision interface between Data Science and business partners, ensuring clarity in problem framing, success metrics, and prioritization ownership.
  5. Articulate Business Value of Data Science: Translate analytics and AI capabilities into measurable business outcomes such as decision quality, agility, resiliency, productivity, speed, and scale, and ensure these outcomes guide prioritization and investment decisions.

Skills

Required

  • Doctorate or Master's or Bachelor's Degree in Data Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Econometrics, Economics, Operations Research, Computer Science, or related field
  • 5+ years of data-science experience (managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results)
  • Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements

Nice to have

  • 8+ years of data-science experience (managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results) for Doctorate
  • 10+ years of data-science experience (managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results) for Master's
  • 12+ years of data-science experience (managing structured and unstructured data, applying statistical techniques and reporting results) for Bachelor's
