State Farm is seeking Data Scientists to develop and validate advanced analytic models for insurance pricing and underwriting. The role involves building models using statistical programming languages like Python or R, and potentially cloud environments. This is an engineering-focused role within the enterprise AI domain, focused on applying existing modeling techniques to business problems.

What you'd actually do

  1. Develop and validate advanced analytic models
  2. Provide input into and/or build datasets to support model development
  3. Collaborate with other team members on scoping solutions and project decision points
  4. Present on technical topics to peers, leadership, and other stakeholders, including non-technical business partners
  5. Lead/mentor other Data Scientists, interns, and other technical work teams

Skills

Required

  • Masters or other advanced degrees, in an analytical field such as statistics, mathematics, economics, data science, quantitative marketing, operations research, industrial engineering, etc.
  • Experience building advanced analytic solutions using generalized linear models and at least one of the following: time series analysis, cluster analysis, tree-based algorithms, or neural networks
  • Experience with at least one statistical programming language: SAS, R, and/or Python

Nice to have

  • Experience with cloud-based environments (e.g., AWS), Linux, and/or SQL
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple, diverse stakeholders across business areas and leadership levels
