Data Scientist, Developer Productivity

Anthropic Anthropic · AI Frontier · San Francisco, CA · Data Science & Analytics

This role focuses on improving developer productivity and engineering effectiveness within an AI company, using data science and causal inference methods to analyze AI-augmented development workflows and inform infrastructure and tooling roadmaps. The goal is to enhance how engineers build, especially in the context of AI-assisted development, and to scale engineering output as the company grows.

What you'd actually do

  1. Define key metrics, build measurement frameworks, and maintain core reporting to evaluate developer productivity and engineering effectiveness
  2. Deep dive into product and user data to derive actionable insights, size opportunities, and influence roadmaps through clear recommendations
  3. Develop hypotheses and apply rigorous causal inference methods — controlled experiments, synthetic controls — to make actionable recommendations
  4. Investigate anomalies, conduct root cause analyses, and provide data-driven insights to guide priorities and inform decisions
  5. Build statistical models, optimization frameworks, and simulations to automate decision-making and operational processes
