Data Scientist, Strategic Intelligence & Risk

OpenAI OpenAI · AI Frontier · San Francisco, CA · Data Science

This role focuses on analyzing and mitigating strategic risks within human-AI systems, using econometric and experimental methods to understand risk shifts and inform company-wide risk management. It involves designing and executing experiments, developing causal inference models, and partnering across teams to evaluate interventions.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own the design and execution of experimental and observational analyses used to assess strategic risk
  2. Develop econometric approaches to estimate the impact of product, policy, and external developments on key risk vectors
  3. Translate strategic risk questions into testable hypotheses and sound study designs
  4. Design and deploy A/B tests, as well as pseudo-experimental studies, to measure changes in risks and understand underlying mechanisms
  5. Identify, test, and explain product-driven, event-driven, or signal-driven changes in risk
