This role is for a Deployable Aircraft Low Observable Mechanic 3 at Northrop Grumman. The primary responsibilities involve working with aircraft low observable outer mold line structures, preparing surfaces for coating, mixing and applying sealants and paints, and performing component-level testing. The role may also involve general aircraft maintenance, including structural repairs, modifications, and servicing of aircraft and engine systems. A Top Secret clearance is required, and the role involves significant travel.

What you'd actually do

  1. Responsible for all aircraft low observable outer mold line structures, materials and applications.
  2. Prepares composite or metallic surfaces for coating applications by performing various operations such as sanding, stripping, applying vacuum, performing porosity testing, masking and other preparation tasks.
  3. Mixes and applies sealants, gap fillers and any other required processes prior to paint application which may require the use of heating devices.
  4. Mixes and applies paints and other coatings at the proper spraying consistency.
  5. Performs or coordinates component-level testing for specification compliance after applications have been completed.

Skills

Required

  • High School diploma or equivalent (GED) and 4 years additional education and/or relevant experience in the Aviation and Aerospace industry.
  • active DoD Top Secret clearance
  • ability to obtain and maintain Special Access Program (SAP) clearance
  • ability to meet medical requirements for worldwide travel
  • ability to obtain and maintain a valid U.S. passport
  • willingness to accept customer furnished quarters for a period up to 180 days
  • willingness to perform required work in Palmdale, CA and other locations
  • willingness to travel 180 days in a rolling year
  • willingness to work a flexible work schedule
  • ability to perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work
  • ability to pass a physical/respiratory evaluation
