Design Engineer

Caterpillar Caterpillar · Industrial · Mossville, IL

Design Engineer role at Caterpillar supporting fuel systems and engine development through advanced design, analytical simulation, and CFD analysis. Responsibilities include performing hydraulic performance modeling, conducting analytical simulations using specific software, analyzing results, recommending design improvements, supporting research and NPI programs, and developing new simulation techniques. Requires a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, background in fluid mechanics and thermodynamics, and skills in analytical thinking, communication, managing priorities, technical excellence, and product design. Top candidates will have a Master's degree, experience with specific CFD tools, diesel engine knowledge, and a strong R&D drive.

What you'd actually do

  1. Perform hydraulic performance modeling and CFD analysis of fuel systems, engine components, and related systems
  2. Conduct analytical simulations using Dynasty, GT Suite, and CFD tools (Simerics MP and/or FLUENT)
  3. Analyze, interpret, and clearly report simulation results to technical stakeholders
  4. Recommend design improvements and enhancements based on analytical findings
  5. Support research projects & new technology introduction, NPI programs, and field issue resolutions
