Design Engineer in Caterpillar's Earth Moving division, Operator Systems Engineering, Operator Visibility Team. Responsible for designing, developing, and releasing operator visibility components and systems (glass, windows, mirrors, wiping/washer systems). Involves requirements gathering, functional specification, DFMEA/PFMEA, validation planning, and troubleshooting. Requires Mechanical Engineering degree and skills in analytical thinking, communication, technical excellence, managing priorities, CAD/CAE, and product design/development. Experience with visibility components, industry standards (ISO 5006), and regulations (ANSI Z26.1, ECE 43/46, AS2080) is preferred.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design, develop, build, and implement new components, products, or technologies used in machine operator visibility systems.
  2. Developing and documenting functional requirements and translating into detailed design documents, 3D models and 2D prints.
  3. Organizing, coordinating, and executing the building, testing, and analysis of prototype visibility components and systems.
  4. Support field quality issue investigations through inspection of failed parts and providing design control support for quality improvement projects.
  5. Overseeing the efforts of drafting specialists.
