Lead Mechanical Engineer – Packaging responsible for the design, development, and implementation of packaging solutions for GE HealthCare products, supporting new product introductions, sustaining engineering, transportation validation, cost optimization, and regulatory compliance. Collaborates with cross-functional teams to ensure packaging meets performance, safety, and operational requirements.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead the design and development of packaging solutions for medical devices, components, and related systems across new product introduction and sustaining engineering programs.
  2. Develop packaging concepts, specifications, drawings, and validation plans aligned with product protection, transportation, regulatory, and manufacturing requirements.
  3. Execute packaging engineering activities including material selection, cushioning analysis, palletization, labeling, and transportation validation.
  4. Collaborate with product engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and logistics teams to ensure packaging designs support operational efficiency and customer expectations.
  5. Drive packaging optimization initiatives focused on cost reduction, sustainability, standardization, and improved packaging performance.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, or related engineering discipline
  • Relevant experience in packaging engineering, mechanical design, product development, or manufacturing engineering
  • Strong understanding of packaging materials, transportation testing, and product protection methodologies
  • Experience with CAD tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent design platforms
  • Familiarity with packaging validation standards and testing methodologies
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical requirements
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project execution skills
  • Effective oral and written communication skills
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities

Nice to have

  • Experience supporting medical devices, healthcare products, or regulated industry environments
  • Exposure to global supply chain, manufacturing, or logistics operations
  • Knowledge of sustainable packaging initiatives and cost optimization strategies
  • Familiarity with ISTA, ASTM, or other transportation testing standards
  • Experience working with suppliers and external packaging vendors
  • Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor junior engineers
