Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- Lead the design and development of packaging solutions for medical devices, components, and related systems across new product introduction and sustaining engineering programs.
- Develop packaging concepts, specifications, drawings, and validation plans aligned with product protection, transportation, regulatory, and manufacturing requirements.
- Execute packaging engineering activities including material selection, cushioning analysis, palletization, labeling, and transportation validation.
- Collaborate with product engineering, sourcing, manufacturing, quality, suppliers, and logistics teams to ensure packaging designs support operational efficiency and customer expectations.
- Drive packaging optimization initiatives focused on cost reduction, sustainability, standardization, and improved packaging performance.
- Support qualification and validation activities including transit testing, environmental testing, and compliance documentation.
- Troubleshoot packaging-related issues arising during manufacturing, transportation, installation, or customer use.
- Ensure compliance with applicable industry standards, regulatory requirements, and internal engineering processes.
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers and support knowledge-sharing within the team.
- Participate in continuous improvement initiatives and support implementation of best practices across packaging engineering operations.
- Work closely with global stakeholders and external suppliers to execute projects within defined timelines and quality expectations.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Packaging Engineering, or related engineering discipline from an accredited university or college.
- Relevant experience in packaging engineering, mechanical design, product development, or manufacturing engineering.
- Strong understanding of packaging materials, transportation testing, and product protection methodologies.
- Experience with CAD tools such as Creo, SolidWorks, AutoCAD, or equivalent design platforms.
- Familiarity with packaging validation standards and testing methodologies.
- Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and technical requirements.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, and project execution skills.
- Effective oral and written communication skills with the ability to collaborate across cross-functional teams.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic engineering environment.
Desired Characteristics
- Experience supporting medical devices, healthcare products, or regulated industry environments.
- Exposure to global supply chain, manufacturing, or logistics operations.
- Knowledge of sustainable packaging initiatives and cost optimization strategies.
- Familiarity with ISTA, ASTM, or other transportation testing standards.
- Experience working with suppliers and external packaging vendors.
- Demonstrated ability to lead technical initiatives and mentor junior engineers.
- Self-driven mindset with strong ownership and continuous improvement orientation.
