Design Manager for Uber's Global AV Infrastructure team, focusing on the design and site readiness of EV charging projects to support autonomous and electrification goals. Responsibilities include end-to-end project management, vendor selection, EV infrastructure design, cross-functional collaboration, and stakeholder reporting.

What you'd actually do

  1. Manage projects comprehensively from conceptual design through permitting and utility coordination, strictly maintaining quality, budget, and timelines.
  2. Conduct RFPs, answer RFIs, level-set proposals, and select architects and engineers for the design of both maintenance depot and charging station projects.
  3. Develop EV charging station designs, ensuring perfect alignment of internal site specifications with utility standards and Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) requirements.
  4. Partner closely with internal teams, architects, and engineers to drive efficient project execution and ensure compliance with negotiated agreements.
  5. Complete comprehensive design reviews to guarantee the finished product meets all internal operational standards and requirements.

Skills

Required

  • 5+ years of experience in design management, design development, or a closely related field.
  • Proven success managing the end-to-end design of heavy civil, site civil, or tenant improvement (TI) projects.
  • Capable of interpreting and applying AC and DC power systems, including transformers, circuit protection, and single-line electrical and mechanical diagrams.
  • Solid experience in utility infrastructure and permitting coordination for land development projects.
  • Skilled in design and project management software such as Adobe Creative Suite, Bluebeam, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, Procore, or similar tools.
  • Exceptional project management skills, with a demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.

Nice to have

  • 8+ years of experience in design management, design development, or related fields.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Self-starter with the ability to thrive and work independently in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
  • Willingness to travel greater than 20% of the time.
