The Design Manager, Workplace at Rivian is responsible for leading the in-house design team focused on physical spaces like offices and R+D facilities. This role involves translating workplace needs into functional and efficient spaces, collaborating with various internal and external stakeholders, and managing the design development and execution of projects. The ideal candidate will have a strong understanding of facility workplace and lab technical needs, with experience in architectural design and construction administration.

What you'd actually do

  1. Independently develop and communicate design ideas through sketches, markups, drafting, or illustrations/renderings.
  2. Lead design development discussions around given programs to define the scope of the project.
  3. Coordinate and collaborate internally: Operations, Construction Managers, Environ. Health and Safety, Engineering, Data/IT, Security.
  4. Produce pricing packages (and/or narratives) that define the final scope of a project, to be used for direct pricing to GCs or as hand-off documents to consulting AEORs.
  5. Independently coordinate and collaborate externally with consultants: architects, engineers, furniture & signage vendors, and fabricators.

Skills

Required

  • Accredited bachelor’s degree in Architecture
  • 4+ years’ experience with office/lab project design and construction administration
  • Proficient with Google Suite, Autodesk Revit and Autocad, Bluebeam Revu, Figma
  • Master of developing and referencing construction documents
  • Analytical, creative, innovative, and problem-solving mindset with an attention to detail
  • Able to coordinate multiple projects at the same time, with the ability to shift focus very quickly and adjust to rapidly changing priorities
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication, negotiation, analytic, and critical thinking skills
  • Experience managing small and large-scale programs and projects
  • Self-starter who is goal-oriented, highly motivated, and comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with changing priorities and process improvements

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree and license preferred
