Design & Release Engineer: Restraints Applications

This role is for a Design & Release Engineer at Ford, focusing on restraints components and systems (seatbelts, airbags, steering wheels, etc.) for new and current vehicles. Responsibilities include managing project timing, releasing drawings and specifications, creating quality documents, tracking supplier deliverables, and supporting production issues. The role requires a Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field and 3+ years of experience in design and release engineering for restraints commodities. Experience with regulatory requirements (FMVSS, IIHS) and simulation/testing methodologies is preferred.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design, develop, validate, and release Restraints System commodities, subsystems, and components for the assigned programs. Commodities include Seatbelts, Airbags, Steering wheels, Buckles, Height adjusters etc.
  2. Monitor the development of Interior trim and other interfacing components for Ford vehicles according to company-specific benchmarks.
  3. Design parts to comply with Corporate, Regulatory and Local Requirements for parts validation, considering the WCR (Worldwide Customers Requirements), ES (Engineering Specifications) and SDS (Systems Design specifications) as well as Manufacturing and Assembly requirements.
  4. Translate Customer, Regulatory, and Product requirements into engineering targets.
  5. Monitor suppliers and analyze customer feedback through Ford's systems.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics Engineering or Equivalent
  • 3+ years of experience working as a design and release Engineer for Restraints Commodities

Nice to have

  • Master's Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Electronics, Mechatronics Engineering or Equivalent
  • Working knowledge of Regulatory and Public Domain Requirements including but not limited to FMVSS, IIHS, etc.
  • Working Knowledge of simulation and testing methodologies for restraints and safety systems.
  • Good program management skills with the ability to manage a number of assignments simultaneously and prioritize appropriately.
  • Experience leading multiple assignments with demanding timelines.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work well with others as part of a team.
  • Significant problem-solving skills demonstrated previously.
  • Knowledge of Manufacturing and Assembly operations.
  • Sharp focus on Quality and Cost management.
