Director, Assistant General Counsel - Network Marketing

This role is for a Director, Assistant General Counsel specializing in Network Marketing within Capital One's Legal Department. The attorney will provide legal counsel and support for counterparty credit risk, network participant oversight, fraud, and chargebacks/disputes. Responsibilities include reviewing marketing content, collateral, and communications, identifying legal risks, and collaborating with various business and compliance stakeholders to develop solutions. Expertise in marketing and advertising laws, risk management, and the payments industry is preferred.

What you'd actually do

  1. Identifying and assessing legal risks associated with network marketing and network participant communications
  2. Active engagement and legal support as part of a collaborative and cross-functional team
  3. Collaborating with Global Payment Network business teams, Brand, the Business Risk Office, Corporate Communications, and Compliance stakeholders to address risks, develop creative solutions, and resolve issues
  4. Regular interactions with senior business partners, Legal Department subject matter experts, and other business attorneys
  5. Enhance existing processes and legal engagement models to facilitate marketing and communication reviews and manage risk

Skills

Required

  • Juris Doctor from an accredited law school
  • Active member in good standing of at least one state bar
  • At least 8 years of experience as an attorney in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel

Nice to have

  • 10+ years of experience as an attorney in a law firm environment, at a government agency, as a military judge advocate, or as in-house counsel
  • 5+ years experience providing legal advice to marketing and brand teams
  • 3+ years experience in the payments industry
  • Experience with international marketing laws and regulations
