Director, Carbon Engineering (onsite)

Director of Carbon Engineering leading teams supporting carbon brake manufacturing, overseeing Dyno Test Lab and Carbon R&D. Responsibilities include managing operations, staff, safety, product integrity, quality, delivery, compliance, and financial performance. The role involves investigating issues, managing engineering changes, standardizing processes, and supporting new product introductions.

What you'd actually do

  1. Set and execute carbon technology strategy, driving R&D initiatives, innovation, and intellectual property development.
  2. Ensure product integrity and performance across the full lifecycle from raw material qualification through production, refurbishment, and end-of-life.
  3. Oversee engineering testing, process performance monitoring, and product/process investigations to maintain quality and reliability.
  4. Partner with operations, supply chain, quality, and global engineering teams to support manufacturing performance and continuous improvement.
  5. Lead departmental operations including budgets, talent development, compliance, and multi-site engineering standards, while fostering a strong, people-focused culture.

Skills

Required

  • Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 14 years prior relevant experience in manufacturing, materials or process engineering or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 12 years of experience in manufacturing, materials or process engineering
  • 5 + years of engineering leadership experience (people, operations, budgets, strategy)
  • Experience in product integrity, quality systems, and engineering change management (e.g., ECNs, MRB, root cause investigations).
  • Experience with new product introduction (NPI), product qualification, or process qualification

Nice to have

  • Advanced degree (MS or PhD) in Engineering or Materials Science
  • Multi-site managerial experience
  • Experience with carbon materials, friction materials, or braking systems
  • Experience with aerospace or other highly regulatory environments
  • Background in R&D leadership or technology strategy
  • Familiarity with dyno testing or tribology
