1Password is seeking a Director of Developer Relations to build and lead their DevRel function, focusing on connecting secure technologies like vaulting and device trust to developer tools and the broader developer community. This role involves creating and implementing strategy, building and leading a team, and ensuring developer voice is integral to the product roadmap. The company is growing rapidly, with a focus on enterprise and AI companies.

What you'd actually do

  1. Build and lead the Developer Relations team, hiring and mentoring Developer Advocates and technical engagement specialists.
  2. Drive the company-wide Developer Relations strategy, focusing on the adoption of 1Password’s developer tools (CLI, SDKs, SSH, developer environments).
  3. Create and maintain a feedback loop between the developer community and our internal Product and Engineering teams to improve our offerings.
  4. Oversee the creation of world-class technical content, including documentation, blogs, demos, and sample code that demonstrates security best practices.
  5. Represent 1Password in the global developer community, ensuring we are a trusted voice in conversations about security, privacy, and authentication.

What the JD emphasized

  • 8+ years leading Developer Relations, Developer Advocacy, or Community programs
  • 5+ years experience managing individual contributors, as well as experience managing other managers
  • Proven expertise in building DevRel strategies from the ground up
  • deep technical fluency in modern development workflows (CI/CD, SSH, authentication standards)
  • Experience dealing with security-conscious developer communities or products (Identity, Auth, DevSecOps) is a strong plus
