The Director of NPI Success for Gas Metering Systems is responsible for ensuring the successful technical launch, regulatory compliance, and long-term performance of NXU’s gas metering portfolio in North America, including NXU Residential and the upcoming NXU Commercial products.
This role serves as the technical bridge between NXU and its utility customers, ensuring that products are deployed safely, compliantly, and successfully, while building long-term customer advocacy and expansion opportunities. The position requires deep technical expertise in ultrasonic gas metering technologies, working knowledge of diaphragm-based meters (including AC250NXS and AC250NX), and a strong understanding of regulatory and certification environments for North America.
Key Responsibilities
Product Launch & Technical Customer Success
- Drive the Engineering handover and validation efforts of product manufacturing with internal and 3rd party manufacturers and suppliers.
- Own the technical success of customer launches for NXU Residential and NXU Commercial gas meters, from early pilots through full-scale deployments.
- Act as the primary technical interface for utilities during onboarding, field trials, and early production phases.
- Ensure launch readiness by partnering closely with R&D, Product Management, Quality, and Operations on validation coverage, diagnostics, and deployment best practices.
- Monitor installed-base performance to proactively identify risks to accuracy, reliability, safety, or customer acceptance.
Regulatory & Compliance Advocacy
Maintain an in-depth, working knowledge of gas metering regulations and standards, including (but not limited to):
- Intrinsic Safety requirements
- ANSI and applicable North American standards
- Certification, audit, and test lab expectations
Act as a regulatory and compliance advocate for utilities, ensuring NXU technology supports their compliance obligations rather than adding risk.
Support customer discussions with regulators, test houses, and certification bodies by clearly articulating product design intent, safety claims, and compliance evidence.
Partner with internal teams to ensure that regulatory requirements and field learnings are fed back into product design, documentation, and validation strategies.
Technical Issue Resolution & Risk Management
- Serve as the escalation point for complex or high-impact technical issues in the field.
- Lead triage and root-cause analysis (RCA) of RMAed meters, field returns, and anomalous performance.
- Assess whether observed issues represent systemic risk to the installed base, and drive corrective or preventive actions where needed.
- Communicate findings clearly and credibly to customers, internal stakeholders, and executive leadership.
Team Leadership & Technical Excellence
- Lead and mentor up to two customer success or test engineers responsible for diagnostic testing, failure analysis, and field support.
- Establish clear workflows for issue intake, investigation, documentation, and closure.
- Foster a culture of technical rigor, accountability, and customer empathy.
Expansion, Advocacy & Customer Growth
Identify opportunities for customers to:
- Expand deployments beyond initial pilots
- Adopt additional software modules, analytics capabilities, or diagnostics such as AMI View and Advanced Gas Analytics
Work with Product and Commercial teams to translate customer needs into viable expansion paths.
Develop “champion” users within utility organizations—technical and operational leaders who trust NXU’s technology and can act as references.
Support sales efforts by participating in late-stage technical evaluations, proof points, and customer testimonials.
Cross‑Functional Collaboration
- Provide structured, data-driven feedback from the field into R&D and Product Management to improve hardware, firmware, diagnostics, and user experience.
- Align closely with Quality, Manufacturing, and Supply Chain teams to ensure field learnings inform production improvements.
- Support roadmap decisions with real-world performance data and customer insight.
Strategic Ownership & Growth Path
- Help define long-term technical success metrics, reliability standards, and customer success models for NXU’s gas metering portfolio.
- As the business scales, assume increasing responsibility for gas metering performance and strategy across North America.
Required Qualifications
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution in a technical discipline such as the sciences, technology, engineering, or mathematics
- 8+ years of experience in gas metering, flow measurement, or industrial sensing technologies.
- Demonstrated hands-on experience with ultrasonic gas meters, including validation, analysis, and fielded performance.
- Working knowledge of diaphragm-based gas meters (e.g., AC250NXS, AC250NX or similar).
- Experience supporting customer deployments, pilots, or post‑launch field issues.
Technical & Regulatory Skills
Strong understanding of:
- Ultrasonic flow measurement principles
- Meter accuracy and metrology
- Environmental, installation, and aging effects
- Failure analysis and RCA methodologies
Familiarity with Intrinsic Safety, ANSI standards, Measurement Canada, and certification processes relevant to North American utilities.
Ability to synthesize test data, field diagnostics, and customer feedback into actionable insights.
Leadership & Communication
- Proven ability to lead small technical teams and influence cross‑functional stakeholders.
- Comfortable engaging with customers, regulators, certifications bodies, and executives.
- High sense of ownership, urgency, and accountability.
