This role is for a Director of Communications at Northrop Grumman, focusing on leading communication strategies, messaging, and execution for the aeronautics business. The responsibilities include developing high-impact strategies, shaping executive thought leadership, managing a team of communications professionals, and overseeing associated budgets. The role requires expertise in communications strategy, editorial planning, content channel management, and communications measurement. It also involves partnering with various leaders and customers on integrated communications planning and implementation. The position requires a Bachelor's degree, at least 10 years of communications experience, and the ability to maintain a Secret Clearance.

What you'd actually do

  1. Partner with communications leadership on the development of communications strategy – internal and external – to drive performance, reputation and engagement.
  2. Partner with functional team peers on the development of content in support sector and enterprise priorities
  3. Partner with Strategy and Business growth leadership on the development of our sector integrated marketing strategy, including positioning in key priority growth areas.
  4. Lead and mentor a small team of dedicated program communications professionals to help them achieve success in their roles; work with individual team members to support their professional development and goals; be an advocate for the communications team, and for cutting-edge resources.
  5. Work closely with customers on integrated communications planning and implementation.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree, preferably in Marketing, Communications, Business or other liberal arts field
  • At least 10 years of experience in communications, media, marketing, and/or public relations
  • Experience leading or managing cross-functional teams
  • Strong writing skills with experience tailoring messages to a variety of audiences, particularly in translating one message for a diverse range of stakeholders
  • Expertise in strategic communications planning, including the development of measurable objectives and associated KPIs
  • Proven experience in building productive working relationships with functional and/or business leaders, including customers
  • Familiarity with communications measurement tools and best practices
  • Strong judgment and ability to remain agile in a fast-moving environment with rapidly shifting priorities
  • Budget management experience
  • Experience leading and mentoring individuals in their professional development
  • Ability to transfer and maintain the final adjudicated U.S. government Secret Clearance (must be in-scope or enrolled in Continuous Evaluation) and any program access(es) required for the position within a reasonable period of time, as determined by the company

Nice to have

  • Aerospace and defense industry experience, with a familiarization of DoD and Global government customers.
  • Excellent collaboration and presentation skills as well as the ability to effectively interface with and influence all levels of management
