Director of Communications

Duolingo Duolingo · Consumer · New York, NY · Marketing and Communications

Director of Communications at Duolingo, responsible for leading external communications for product launches, company performance, and earnings. This role translates product development and business performance into clear, compelling narratives for various stakeholders, including press, investors, and users. It requires strong strategic thinking, storytelling, and cross-functional collaboration with Product, Data, and Finance teams. The role also involves managing agencies and preparing executives for high-stakes communication moments, with a focus on building trust and driving growth.

What you'd actually do

  1. Own how we communicate product progress and company performance—connecting what we ship to how we grow (DAUs, engagement, revenue).
  2. Lead comms for earnings and major company moments: shape the narrative, partner with IR and Finance, and ensure consistency across press, exec messaging, and owned channels.
  3. Drive product communications end-to-end: from shaping the story to landing the launch to sustaining momentum after.
  4. Turn complex product areas (AI, efficacy, monetization) into simple, credible narratives with clear proof points.
  5. Partner deeply with Product and Data to identify what’s actually interesting, differentiated, and worth talking about—and what’s not.
