Okta is seeking a Director of Engineering to lead teams building the user-facing experience of the Okta Workflows platform, a no-code automation tool for identity and business processes. What you'd actually do

  1. Lead, recruit, and mentor multiple teams of engineers, architects and engineering managers, fostering a culture of innovation, accountability, and psychological safety.
  2. Partner closely with senior leaders in Product Management and Design to define a compelling product vision and execute a multi-year roadmap.
  3. Drive the technical strategy for the Workflows user experience, ensuring we are building a secure, scalable, reliable, and intuitive platform on modern technologies like React, Node.js, and Kubernetes.
  4. Own and manage the operational rhythm of your organization, establishing metrics and processes to ensure engineering excellence and predictable delivery.
  5. Represent your teams and strategy in senior leadership forums and company-wide reviews, translating technical progress into data-driven narratives.

Skills

Required

  • 12+ years of experience in software development
  • proven track record of leading high-performing engineering organizations
  • experience managing other managers
  • strong technical background leading teams that build both complex user interfaces (e.g., React, Typescript) and scalable backend services (e.g., Node.js)
  • Experience with public cloud infrastructure (AWS, GCP)
  • container orchestration technologies like Kubernetes
  • Demonstrated success in collaborating with product and design counterparts to build and execute a long-term, customer-focused roadmap
  • Exceptional coaching and mentoring skills
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
