Aircraft Mechanic 1 (Fuels) at Northrop Grumman, supporting the E-6B aircraft maintenance program. Responsibilities include performing removal, installation, inspection, and repair of fuel cells, systems, and related components, analyzing drawings, diagnosing issues, and ensuring quality standards. Requires experience with fuel tanks and systems, and the ability to work in various physical conditions.

What you'd actually do

  1. Perform removal, installation, and inspection functions of fuel cells and assembly, and installation of components such as fuel lines, hardware, and fittings on various aircraft.
  2. Analyze various aircraft sealing, structural, and assembly drawings, to detect seal level deficiencies. Diagnose results of leak test to detect drawing, specification, structural and assembly sealing errors. Recommend corrective action necessary to correct deficiencies.
  3. Perform disassembly and teardown operations of aircraft fuel systems and related components. Remove fuel cells and components from aircraft, following specific procedures and techniques. Prepare cavity for installation of fuel cells and components. Install fuel cells and components, following specific procedures and techniques. Use appropriate pressure test equipment, and make repairs as required.
  4. Check condition of fuel cells for any type of damage; and cavity, for condition of internal fittings.
  5. Work from operation sheets, diagrams, blueprints, engineering orders, mil-specs and verbal instructions. Work with jigs, fixtures, and various tooling, as operations require. Assist other aircraft mechanics as required.

Skills

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent (GED)
  • minimum 2 years experience with fuel tanks and systems
  • Able to perform work in an approved environment during specified work hours
  • Able to change physical locations based upon need (including physical ability to travel)
  • Able to wear respirator or other safety gear
  • Ability to be subject to areas which could cause various phobias due to height or closed spaces
