Seeking an Economist to apply economic and econometric methods to guide business decisions in Amazon's JP marketplace. The role involves building causal inference models to measure initiative impact, optimizing pricing and selection, and collaborating with data scientists and engineers. The Economist will also design and analyze experiments, develop analytical frameworks in R/Python/Stata, and present findings to stakeholders. This role is pioneering for economists outside North America and EU, aiming to expand Amazon's economist community in Asia and impact international operations.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design and execute causal inference analyses using econometric techniques to measure the impact of business initiatives on key marketplace metrics
  2. Build economic models to optimize pricing strategies, product selection decisions, and delivery speed investments that balance customer experience with business profitability
  3. Collaborate with product managers, engineers, and business leaders to translate complex business questions into tractable research problems and deliver actionable insights
  4. Design and analyze experiments to test hypotheses and validate causal relationships in observational data
  5. Develop scalable analytical frameworks and tools using R, Python, or Stata that can be leveraged across multiple business use cases

Skills

Required

  • PhD in economics or equivalent
  • 2+ years of industry, consulting, government, or academic research experience

Nice to have

  • Knowledge of at least one statistical software package such as R, Stata, Matlab, SAS
  • Experience with handling of large datasets
  • Experience with SQL
