Joby Aviation is seeking an EHS Manager for a temporary contract role to support daily operations, ensure workforce health and safety, and drive regulatory compliance. The role involves technical support, field work, safety walkthroughs, environmental audits, sample collection, training, and meeting coordination. The ideal candidate will collaborate with cross-functional teams and thrive in a fast-paced environment.

What you'd actually do

  1. Support the development, implementation, and continual improvement of Joby’s Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) Safety Management Systems (SMS) to ensure alignment with regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
  2. Set and execute strategies to achieve or exceed EHS performance objectives, proactively manage risk, and drive a strong safety culture across operations.
  3. Partner with operations, manufacturing, and facilities leadership to align EHS goals, monitor progress, and ensure accountability at all levels.
  4. Oversee contractor, vendor, and service provider compliance, ensuring safe work practices and adherence to Joby’s EHS standards.
  5. Support EHS Lead with engagement with regulatory agencies and industry organizations to maintain compliance, resolve issues, and strengthen collaborative relationships.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Environmental Management, Physical Sciences, Industrial Hygiene or a related technical field.
  • 3+ years of progressive EHS experience, with increasing responsibility in relevant roles.
  • Experience leading and managing people.
  • Proven background in manufacturing environments including job hazard analysis of routine and non-routine tasks, laboratory safety management, site inspections, hazardous waste management, and compliance documentation.
  • Experience developing, designing, and delivering EH&S training.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of OSHA regulations, including Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), Machine Guarding, Electrical Safety, and Hazard Communication (HazCom).
  • Demonstrated expertise in risk assessments, including preparation of Job Hazard Analyses and Ergonomic Assessments.

Nice to have

  • Experience implementing behavioral based safety (BBS) programs.
  • Experience in environmental programs: RCRA, Storm Water and SPCC.
  • CSP, ASP, MPH, P.E., CIH or CHMM.
