Electrical Commissioning Technician

xAI is seeking an Electrical Commissioning Technician to support the buildout and energization of their high-performance data centers powering next-generation AI supercomputing infrastructure. The role involves commissioning, testing, and troubleshooting electrical systems, working closely with construction, engineering, and operations teams to ensure safe, reliable, and high-quality electrical systems.

What you'd actually do

  1. Execute electrical commissioning activities for medium and low voltage power distribution systems, switchgear, transformers, UPS systems, generators, PDUs, and associated controls in data center environments.
  2. Perform point-to-point wiring checks, functional testing, calibration, and system integration verification.
  3. Troubleshoot and resolve electrical issues during pre-commissioning, commissioning, and startup phases.
  4. Develop and execute detailed commissioning test procedures, scripts, and documentation in accordance with project specifications and industry standards.
  5. Collaborate with EPC contractors, OEM vendors, and xAI engineers to coordinate energization sequences and integrated system testing.

Skills

Required

  • 3+ years of hands-on electrical commissioning or field technician experience in data centers, power plants, or large industrial facilities
  • Strong working knowledge of electrical systems up to 480V (medium voltage experience preferred), including switchgear, motor control centers, variable frequency drives, and protective relaying
  • Experience with commissioning test equipment (meggers, multimeters, relay test sets, power quality analyzers, etc.)
  • Familiarity with relevant codes and standards (NEC, NFPA 70E, IEEE, NETA)
  • Demonstrated ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and one-line diagrams
  • Strong safety mindset with current OSHA 10/30 or equivalent training
  • Willingness to work extended hours, nights, and weekends during critical commissioning windows
  • Ability to travel extensively to xAI construction sites and remain onsite during peak commissioning phases
  • Capability to work in industrial environments, climb ladders, lift moderate loads, and wear PPE for extended periods

Nice to have

  • Prior commissioning experience on hyperscale data center projects or mission-critical facilities
  • NETA certification (Level II or higher) or equivalent (e.g., NICET, Journeyman Electrician license)
  • Experience with data center power infrastructure including redundant UPS, generators, and busway systems
  • Knowledge of PLC/controls troubleshooting and SCADA systems
  • Proficiency with commissioning management software (e.g., CxPro, Procore, or similar)
  • Technical degree or trade school certification in Electrical Engineering Technology or related field
