Electrical Design Engineer – High Voltage Electrification

Caterpillar Caterpillar · Industrial · Desford, United Kingdom

Electrical Design Engineer responsible for the design and development of electrical systems for heavy machinery, including high-voltage systems for electrified applications. The role involves full product lifecycle ownership, from concept to field issue resolution, and collaboration with cross-functional teams.

What you'd actually do

  1. Design and develop electrical systems, including conventional 12V/24V harnesses and high-voltage (>300V DC) systems, using 3D CAD tools such as Creo, ensuring designs meet performance and manufacturability requirements
  2. Support the development of high-voltage cable systems, including integration of HVIL (High Voltage Interlock Loop) safety circuits, ensuring safe and compliant designs
  3. Own delivery across the product lifecycle, from concept and development through validation, release and resolution of field issues
  4. Translate customer and project requirements into robust electrical design solutions, including architecture definition and component selection
  5. Apply structured analytical thinking to evaluate design options, balancing performance, cost, risk and manufacturability
