This role involves preparing and painting aerospace parts, including handling various materials and operating related equipment. It requires experience in vehicle and aerospace painting, reading drawings, and masking. The position also involves assisting process engineers in developing advanced painting techniques and maintaining process documents. A security clearance is required.

What you'd actually do

  1. Works from blueprints, drawings, sketches, planning, process specifications, oral and written instructions.
  2. Lays out and prepares, including masks, prior to determining and applying a variety of standard and unique primers, exotic pigments and paints to satellite and other aerospace parts and materials including brackets, electrostatic discharge (ESD) sensitive electronic units, heatpipes and antennas. Applies by spray, brush or other means conductive and silicone based white and black paints, high temperature ceramics, gold, inorganics, chemglaze, polyurethane and epoxy primers. Often observes strict thickness and surface coverage area requirements.
  3. Primes and paints all metal, plastic and graphite parts including the processing of aluminum parts through an acid etch in preparation for priming. Recognizes various types of metals and plated surfaces
  4. Operates ovens, heat lamps, vacuum blasters, drill motors, spray guns and related equipment. Uses scales, and mixing equipment for the weighing, measuring and mixing of pigments and resins. Utilizes precision measuring instruments such as protractors, thickness gauges, calipers and micrometers. May work on scaffolding; operates material handling equipment such as pallet jack or cranes.
  5. Assists process engineers in developing advanced painting techniques required for new space applications and in reviewing and revising process documents.

Skills

Required

  • 10 years' experience as a vehicle painter
  • Aerospace paint experience
  • Experience operating ovens, heat lamps, vacuum blasters, drill motors, spray guns and related equipment
  • Experience reading drawings and masking

  • Familiar with paint robot
