Emergency Management Chief

Merck is seeking an Emergency Management Chief to oversee and manage the site's emergency management and loss prevention programs for multiple facilities. This role involves ensuring compliance with all security, emergency preparedness, response regulations, fire and life safety codes, and loss prevention programs. The Chief will manage the Emergency Response team and Compliance Technicians, develop procedures, and maintain preventative maintenance plans for life safety and loss prevention systems. The position requires extensive experience in emergency response, fire safety, and compliance, with specific certifications in EMT and Firefighter levels.

What you'd actually do

  1. The Manager, Plant Protection and Emergency Services, will be responsible for providing guidance, oversight, and management of the site’s emergency management and loss prevention programs for the Durham Hilleman, BCG and Teknika facilities.
  2. The manager is responsible for ensuring site compliance with all security, emergency preparedness and response regulations, as well as ensuring compliance with fire and life safety codes, and all required loss prevention programs.
  3. The position prepares and maintains site compliance with applicable regulations (NFPA, OSHA, EPA, DHS, GSE), and local standards and develops procedures, preventative maintenance plans and processes to ensure robust programs.
  4. The manager is also responsible for overseeing the sites Emergency Response team and Compliance Technicians and reports to the Site Services Lead.
  5. Management of Compliance Technicians: setting objectives, employee development, daily/shift management, schedule, vacations, coaching and counselling.

Skills

Required

  • High School Diploma or GED
  • 10 years experience in Asset Protection, Security, Fire Life Safety Systems or Firefighting
  • Current Emergency Medical Technician or Emergency Medical Responder NC Certification or National Registry
  • Fire Fighter 1 & 2 or North Carolina Fire Fighter Certification
  • Fire Instructor 1
  • Fire Officer 1
  • Hazmat Responder Level 1
  • Willingness to work shift work, weekends, and Holidays

Nice to have

  • Firefighter I & II, Hazmat Operations or Technician, NC EMT, Confined Space Rescue, High Angle Rescue, Certified in NFPA 25: Inspection, Maintenance and Testing of Water based Fire Protection Systems or NICET II, NC Limited Fire Sprinkler Inspection Technician through the North Carolina Board of Examiners Plumbing, Heating and Fire Sprinkler Contractors, Hazmat Technician
