GEICO is seeking an experienced Engineer II to help drive their insurance business transformation by building high-performance, low maintenance, zero-downtime platforms and applications. The role involves designing and building scalable distributed systems, collaborating across teams, and utilizing various technologies including C#, SQL, NoSQL, Docker, Kubernetes, and Azure services within an Agile methodology.

What you'd actually do

  1. Scope, design, and build scalable, resilient distributed systems.
  2. Engage in cross-functional collaboration throughout the entire software lifecycle.
  3. Participate in design sessions and code reviews with peers to elevate the quality of engineering across the organization .
  4. Define, create, and support reusable application components/patterns from a business and technology perspective.
  5. Utilize programming languages like C# or other object-oriented languages, SQL, and NoSQL databases, Container Orchestration services including Docker and Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure tools and services.

Skills

Required

  • Programming experience with at least one modern language such as C#, GO, Java, or C++ including object-oriented design
  • Proven understanding of microservices oriented architecture and extensible REST APIs.
  • Experience contributing to the architecture and design (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems.
  • Understanding of HTML-5, JavaScript/TypeScript, XML, and JSON
  • In-depth knowledge of CS data structures and algorithms.
  • Experience with GIT and the overall GIT lifestyle.
  • Understanding of existing Operational Portals such as Azure Portal
  • Experience with continuous delivery and infrastructure as code.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Strong problem-solving ability.
  • Practical knowledge working in an Agile environment.
  • Ability to excel in a fast-paced environment.
  • Knowledge of developer tooling across the software development life cycle (task management, source code, building, deployment, operations, real-time communication).
  • 2+ years of non-internship professional software development experience
  • 2+ years of experience with architecture and design
  • 2+ years of experience building products in microservices-oriented architecture and extensible REST APIs
  • 2+ years of experience with AWS, GCP, Azure, or another cloud service
