Engineer/principal Engineer Tool Level 2/3

This role is for a Tooling Engineer/Principal Tooling Engineer at Northrop Grumman, focused on the design, fabrication, and sustainment of tooling for manufacturing processes, particularly for composite parts. Responsibilities include managing tooling integration, supporting production builds, collaborating with manufacturing engineering, recommending improvements, and managing external fabrication shops. The role requires experience with CAD systems, metallic fabrication, and project management. It is not directly related to AI/ML development.

What you'd actually do

  1. Manages and supports integration of new tooling from design through sustainment
  2. Supervises and supports critical production builds involving technical tooling processes
  3. Provides communication to Integrated Product Team (IPT) leaders regarding cost and schedule including escalation of any technical issues.
  4. Works intimately with Manufacturing engineering to deliver tools that meet product build requirements.
  5. Recommends and often leads continuous improvement activities to support cost savings and cost avoidance targets.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelors Degree in STEM or equivalent experience
  • Experience in design, fabrication and implementation of tooling
  • Experience in project management
  • Experience with 3D CAD systems
  • Experience with general metallic fabrication

  • BS in Mechanical, Aerospace or Civil Engineering
