Engineering Devsecops Architect

Caterpillar Caterpillar · Industrial · Brisbane, Queensland

Caterpillar is seeking an Engineering DevSecOps Architect to build and scale an effective DevOps culture across the Caterpillar Technology division. This role involves setting technical direction for CI/CD, infrastructure automation, and engineering enablement, focusing on removing bottlenecks, standardizing ways of working, and improving delivery speed, reliability, and security. The position requires hands-on technical leadership, strategic ownership of DevOps tooling, automation standards, and operational reliability, along with mentoring engineers and partnering with various teams.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead DevOps strategy and standards: define reference architectures, golden paths, reusable templates, and engineering standards for CI/CD, IaC, and runtime operations.
  2. Own the DevOps tooling portfolio: roadmap, lifecycle management, rationalisation, and adoption guidance in partnership with Caterpillar Centres of Excellence.
  3. Reliability and operational excellence: establish SLO/SLI practices, observability standards, incident response, problem management, and continuous improvement rhythms. Act as the escalation point for complex platform, deployment, and infrastructure issues.
  4. Security-first delivery: embed security controls into pipelines (e.g. secret management, scanning, policy-as-code) and drive remediation and audit readiness.
  5. Enable and coach teams: mentor engineers, uplift capability across squads, and build a culture of ownership and automation.
