This role is for an Engineering Lab Manager responsible for leading a hardware engineering team that supports New Product Introduction (NPI) projects within Google Cloud's ML, Systems, & Cloud AI organization. The team focuses on hardware testing, automation, prototyping, and ensuring product quality for data center infrastructure. Responsibilities include OS administration, hardware assembly, firmware updates, supply chain management, and developing standardized procedures and automation tools for lab tasks.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead a specialized hardware engineering team supporting New Product Introduction (NPI) projects, collaborating with Project Managers to prioritize workloads and maintain high performance in a changing environments.
  2. Perform Linux and Windows Operating System (OS) administration, including root-cause analysis for complex network issues, OS debugging, and engineering test setup maintenance.
  3. Partner with cross-functional teams to execute hardware assembly, firmware updates, and tool programming during critical project bring-up phases.
  4. Manage the end-to-end hardware supply chain, including component allocation, inventory of high-volume consumables, and the maintenance of a safe, organized lab environment.
  5. Increase operational efficiency by developing standardized procedures and automation tools for data collection, population, and routine lab administrative tasks.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Physics, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 6 years of experience working in a lab environment.
  • 3 years of experience in technical leadership.

Nice to have

  • Certification in RHCE or CCNA.
  • 7 years of experience working in an Engineering laboratory environment.
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams on bring up tasks (e.g., hardware assembly, programming with hardware tools, and firmware updates).
  • Experience managing and organizing lab inventory of consumables by lab users.
  • Experience maintaining an organized, clean, and safe operating lab.
  • Ability to multi-task in a changing environment.
