Engineering Manager, Client Portal

This role is for an Engineering Manager on the Client Portal team, responsible for leading and mentoring software engineers, owning technical direction, and delivering performant, intuitive user experiences. The team owns APIs and the integration engine for the client portal. The company uses AI, but this role is focused on the client portal's SaaS solutions, APIs, and integrations, not directly on building AI models or systems.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead and mentor a team of software engineers through architectural decisions, career growth, and best practices
  2. Own the technical direction for the Client Portal — designing extensible architecture and driving execution across the full SDLC
  3. Partner with product and design to deliver performant, intuitive user experiences
  4. Work closely with product, legal, and operations to prioritize user needs and deliver high-impact solutions
  5. Set and uphold standards around quality, security, documentation, performance, testing, and observability

Skills

Required

  • 4+ years of engineering management experience with a strong track record of hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers
  • Strong understanding of scalability, performance, and security
  • Experience building complex SaaS solutions, scalable web portals, resilient public APIs, and multi-system integrations
  • Product-minded — able to translate user needs into reliable, scalable technical solutions
  • Strong communicator across technical and non-technical audiences
  • Committed to maintainable code, best practices in testing and reliability, and a fast pace of execution

Nice to have

  • Familiarity with React/TypeScript, Node.js, Python, PostgreSQL, and orchestration frameworks
  • Experience in legal tech, AI-driven applications, or other social impact domains
  • Previous experience in a high-growth startup or building client-facing integration platforms
