With technical and leadership expertise, you manage engineers across multiple teams and locations, a large product budget and oversee the deployment of large-scale projects across multiple sites internationally.
As an Engineering Manager for the Cross-Surface team, your mission is to make the Google Home App exceptional across a various portfolio of devices, including displays, wearables, and TVs. You will be architecting the experiences to scale beyond first-party Google devices to third-party surfaces, expanding Google's smart home ecosystem. You will manage a talented team of engineers and collaborate across Android and iOS platforms. You will grow in a fast-paced environment and be passionate about consumer product surfaces. With a strong background in Android, you will have experience in building scalable frameworks.
The Platforms and Devices team encompasses Google's various computing software platforms across environments (desktop, mobile, applications), as well as our first party devices and services that combine the best of Google AI, software, and hardware. Teams across this area research, design, and develop new technologies to make our user's interaction with computing faster and more seamless, building innovative experiences for our users around the world.
Responsibilities
- Lead and grow a team of high-performing software engineers focused on delivering core user journeys.
- Lead the implementation of identity features and app pin lock for shared home devices, ensuring secure access and personalized experiences in a communal setting.
- Collaborate with cross-functional partners to integrate Gemini-powered interactions and Google Home App (GHA) requirements across Android, iOS, and Wear operating system.
- Manage team health, roadmap planning, and operational excellence for critical smart home services, balancing innovation with routine maintenance
Qualifications
Minimum qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience.
- 8 years of experience in software development and building distributed systems at a large-scale.
- 5 years of experience leading teams that build and maintain consumer-facing mobile or hardware products.
- 3 years of experience in a people management, supervision/team leadership role.
- 2 years of experience leading a team of mobile engineers.
Preferred qualifications:
- Master’s degree or PhD in Engineering, Computer Science, or a related technical field.
- Experience with Android and iOS application development.
- Experience managing teams in a newly bootstrapped or rapidly evolving product environment.
- Worked with consumer facing products before and has experience managing consumer-facing products.
- Ability to collaborate with and influence platform teams (e.g., Android Platform) to define new system APIs and unlock unique device capabilities.
