Engineering Manager, Plumber

Google is seeking an Engineering Manager for the Plumber team, responsible for managing a team of engineers and leading projects related to authorization systems. The role involves optimizing code, contributing to product strategy, and developing the team. The Plumber team specifically supports the indexing of Access Control Lists (ACLs) to make searches ACL-aware, ensuring data protection and customer privacy within Google's products. The team builds foundational technical components for Google's flagship products, impacting important technical decisions across the company.

What you'd actually do

  1. Address system resilience with new client requirements, expand to AI and Cloud use cases, and deepen Workspace engagements.
  2. Enable AI and Cloud future-facing infrastructure needs: ensure that Plumber can meet current and future Cloud commitments and participate in defining the agentic identity problem space.
  3. Improve system reliability and rationalize the integration with Zanzibar and UDCS ACL components.
  4. Collaborate with other leads within Authorization as well as driving efforts with ST-Spanner, Drive, Cloud, and storage ecosystem components.
