Engineering Technician – Communications (level 2 or 3)

Northrop Grumman is seeking an Engineering Technician for Communications (Level 2 or 3) to build, integrate, test, and maintain communications hardware in laboratory and field settings. The role involves supporting engineers, building systems from drawings, installing custom cables, producing documentation, and performing calculations. Requires a Secret security clearance and the ability to obtain SAP access.

What you'd actually do

  1. Build systems using engineering drawings, configuration & recovery documentation,
  2. Support startup & shutdown procedures, ATP/Delivery, as well as post-delivery support.
  3. Support the build and installation of custom cables and wire harness assemblies as well as tray assemblies from engineering drawings and interconnect diagrams.
  4. Produce engineering documentation, reports, drawings (flow charts, block diagrams, and schematics),
  5. Perform detailed mathematical calculations using established formulas, conducting preliminary analyses of data where guidelines are provided in such areas as trajectory adequacy, model dimensional consistency and quantitative judgments concerning technical data.

Skills

Required

  • High School diploma or equivalent and 2 years additional education and/or related experience (for Level 2)
  • High School diploma or equivalent and 4 years additional education and/or related experience (for Level 3)
  • Ability to interpret engineering drawings in accordance with ASME and IEEE standards, including rack assembly drawings, interconnect wiring diagrams and custom cable assemblies.
  • Working experience building and installing custom harness assemblies in accordance with industry standards.
  • Working experience with industry standards for connectors including, but not limited to D38999, Dsub, twinax, RJ45, etc.
  • Must be physically able to move up to 50 lbs.
  • Must have color vision to identify cables and wires.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills with an aptitude to learn new material quickly.
  • Active U.S. Government Secret Security Clearance
  • Ability to obtain and maintain initial Special Access Program (SAP) access

Nice to have

  • Current applicable Special Access Program (SAP) clearance.
  • Active U.S. Government Top Secret Security Clearance with investigation date within the last 5 years, ability to obtain and maintain access to Special Programs (SAP) and a U.S. Government Top Secret Clearance
