Boeing Defense, Space & Security is seeking an EO/IR Special Technology Engineering Manager to lead a team focused on electro-optic and infrared systems and materials. The role involves managing engineering and technical development, overseeing technical approaches, products, and processes, and developing strategic partnerships. The position requires experience in thin film development, optics design, material selection, analysis, testing, and system-level EO/IR modeling and simulation, with a focus on low to mid-range Technical Readiness Levels (TRL).

What you'd actually do

  1. Manages employees performing engineering and technical activities in the areas of: Thin film development and fabrication, Optics design, material selection, analysis, and testing. and System level EO/IR modeling and simulation
  2. Develops and executes project and process plans, implements policies and procedures and sets operational goals.
  3. Acquires resources for projects and processes, (including staffing) provides technical management of suppliers and leads process improvements.
  4. Develops and maintains relationships and partnerships with customers, stakeholders, peers, partners and direct reports.
  5. Provides oversight and approval of technical approaches, products and processes.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor of Science degree in Engineering (with a focus in Electrical, Mechanical or Aeronautical), Computer Science, Data Science, Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry
  • 9+ years of work-related experience with a bachelor’s or 7+ years of work-related experience with Masters or 4+ years with a PhD
  • at least one year of experience in a leadership role (team leader, temp manager, large scale cross functional project/program management, or formal manager experience) OR have completed the Boeing internal course “Exploring Leadership”
  • Experience performing analysis on EO/IR systems

Nice to have

  • Masters of Science in Electrical Engineering or Physics
  • Active US Top Secret Clearance with Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI) Access
  • Prior experience leading a team of EO/IR engineers (as a manager or technical lead)
  • Prior project management experience
  • Experience with thin film development and fabrication
  • Experience designing and testing optical systems
  • Experience performing EO/IR modeling and simulation
  • Experience leading cross-functional teams to resolve complex technical issues
  • Experience with staffing (hiring or allocating personnel resources)
  • Hands-on experiences with integration, lab testing, and troubleshooting.
