Johnson & Johnson is seeking an NPI Manufacturing Engineer for their Robotics and Digital (RAD) division in San Jose, CA. This role focuses on bringing next-generation Instruments and Accessories (I&A) from concept to reality, ensuring manufacturing readiness, and meeting high-quality standards. Responsibilities include DFM/DFA, developing manufacturing frameworks, driving cross-functional reviews, designing/validating assembly processes, authoring documentation, applying lean principles, troubleshooting, and collaborating with R&D, Quality, and Production teams. A Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics preferred) with 4+ years of experience in manufacturing engineering, preferably in the medical device industry with NPI experience, is required. Experience with fixture design, laser welding, crimping, catheter manufacturing, CAD (SolidWorks), rapid prototyping, and Lean/Six Sigma is strongly preferred.

What you'd actually do

  1. Participate in DFM (Design for Manufacturing) & DFA (Design for Assembly) activities for Instruments & Accessories (I&A), identifying and resolving manufacturing constraints
  2. Develop and maintain comprehensive manufacturing readiness frameworks for I&A product releases.
  3. Drive cross-functional NPI reviews with R&D, Quality, Supplier Engineering and Production teams to ensure seamless and timely product transitions
  4. Create NPI project timelines, proactively identifying risks and implementing mitigation strategies
  5. Design, validate, and document assembly processes, tooling, gauges, and fixtures

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering (Mechanical, Mechatronics or related field preferred)
  • Minimum 4+ years of relevant professional work experience
  • Manufacturing engineering experience with demonstrated progression of responsibility
  • Medical device industry experience
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams
  • Strong project management skills
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills
