This role is for an F-18 Electrical Avionics Technician responsible for performing maintenance and repair operations on F-18 aircraft electrical systems, components, and equipment. It involves troubleshooting, interpreting schematics, and using various tools to ensure the operational readiness of aircraft electrical and navigation systems. The position requires significant experience with F/A-18 E/F aircraft and adherence to strict maintenance protocols.

What you'd actually do

  1. Perform maintenance operations on F-18 aircraft, F-18 aircraft equipment, F-18 engines, F-18 components, and systems in accordance with DOD, manufacturer, company, supplier and other directives in support of aircraft modification.
  2. Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems encountered with aircraft electrical and navigation systems.
  3. Provide technical advice, training, and troubleshooting assistance to the customer.
  4. Detailing aircraft compass systems, altitude reference systems, and inertial navigational systems
  5. Maintain electrical and instrument systems, including power generation, conversion, and distribution.

Skills

Required

  • F/A-18 E/F experience
  • F/A-18 inspections, servicing, troubleshooting, removals, and repairs
  • Read and interpret wiring schematics, assembly drawings, process specifications, technical manuals, written instructions, test procedures
  • Use common hand tools such as: wrenches, safety wire pliers
  • Operate specialty tools such as crimpers, multimeters, M1 meters, Air data test sets, pin extractors
  • Remove, replace, and function check aircraft components and assemblies
  • Wire repair, splicing, soldering and wire bundling
  • Disassemble, pin and de-pin connectors
  • Maintain electrical and instrument systems
  • Inspect and maintain aircraft batteries and electrical components
  • Maintain interior and exterior lighting
  • Handle electrical control of aircraft systems
  • Supervision of automatic flight control and stabilization systems
  • Detailing aircraft compass systems, altitude reference systems, and inertial navigational systems
  • Troubleshoot and resolve technical problems
  • Provide technical advice, training, and troubleshooting assistance
  • Familiar with IETM’s and Wire Illuminator, as well as the NAMP 4790 and applicable NAVAIR technical publications
  • Generate written reports for management
  • Comprehensive written and verbal English communication skills
  • Ability to work flexible schedules
  • Clearly document maintenance and repair actions, equipment status tags, logs, parts requests
  • Perform assigned duties while wearing required safety equipment
  • Comply with all rules and regulations concerning health and safety, tool control, FOD control, and all training and certification requirements
  • Perform moderate strenuous physical and repetitious work to include bending, stooping, kneeling, carrying tools, lifting up to 50 pounds, working overhead, and accessing small, confined spaces
  • Pass a physical/respiratory evaluation to obtain and maintain necessary respirator clearance and compliance with all respirator fitting requirements
