Fiber Documentation Engineer

xAI xAI · AI Frontier · Austin, TX, Memphis, TN · Data Center

This role is for a Fiber Documentation Engineer at xAI, responsible for designing, documenting, and optimizing fiber optic networks to support the company's high-performance infrastructure. The role involves significant travel, site surveys, OSP/ISP design, fiber testing, and record maintenance using tools like IQGeo Network Manager and CAD. It requires hands-on experience in fiber optic network deployment and collaboration with various teams.

What you'd actually do

  1. Document and design fiber networks using IQGeo Network Manager and CAD, including route modeling, data import, and report generation.
  2. Conduct site surveys and produce detailed OSP (aerial/underground) and ISP (building entry/riser) connectivity designs in GIS and/or CAD.
  3. Survey, document, and install/run jumpers for new and existing fiber cross-connects; maintain accurate records in IQGeo and CAD.
  4. Perform basic fiber testing with VFL (fault location) and OPM (power/loss measurement); clean connectors and inspect end-faces. Apply basic OTDR skills and interpret fiber trace reports.
  5. Collaborate with teams to install and maintain OXC jumpers in a clean and orderly manner.
