Johnson & Johnson is seeking a Field Service Engineer for their VELYS™ robotic-assisted orthopedic technologies in Aprilia, Italy. The role involves installation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and optimization of these systems in clinical and customer environments, ensuring safe, reliable, and compliant operation. The engineer will provide on-site support during surgical cases, perform preventive maintenance, and collaborate with various teams to ensure system uptime and customer satisfaction.

What you'd actually do

  1. Install, commission, maintain, and service VELYS™ robotic‑assisted and enabling technologies at customer sites in accordance with company standards and regulatory requirements.
  2. Diagnose and resolve technical, hardware, and software issues in the field, ensuring timely system uptime and customer support.
  3. Provide on‑site technical support during surgical cases and clinical use as required, ensuring safe and effective system operation.
  4. Perform preventive maintenance, system upgrades, and functional testing to ensure optimal performance and compliance.
  5. Document service activities, technical issues, and corrective actions accurately within designated service management systems.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Biomedical, Electrical, Mechanical, Mechatronics, or related technical discipline)
  • 4-6 years of relevant field service, technical support, or engineering experience
  • Hands-on experience troubleshooting hardware, software, and integrated systems
  • Customer-service orientation
  • Clear and professional communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively
  • Willingness to work flexible hours
  • Ability to lift and transport equipment
  • Italian (fluent)
  • English (professional working proficiency)

Nice to have

  • Advanced technical training or certifications
  • Experience supporting robotic-assisted surgery systems or advanced digital medical technologies
  • Familiarity with regulated environments (ISO, GMP, MDR/FDA) and medical device quality systems
  • Knowledge of networking, imaging, or software-driven platforms
