This is a Field Service Technician role for Rivian vehicles, focusing on diagnosis, repair, and maintenance. The role requires hands-on skills with automotive systems, including electrical, high voltage, chassis, brakes, suspension, and thermal systems. It involves customer interaction, documentation, and staying current with technical skills. While Rivian builds EVs, this role is not directly involved in AI/ML development.

What you'd actually do

  1. Perform or assist with assigned vehicle diagnosis, repairs, installations, and inspections, whether at a service center or in the field directly at customer homes, businesses, or other convenient locations.
  2. Identify and explain the Rivian product line, EV framework, tools, and accessories.
  3. Utilize available technical resources to follow Rivian repair procedures efficiently without compromising quality or safety.
  4. Conduct road tests to ensure the quality of repairs.
  5. Manage necessary parts operations, including ordering, receiving, shipping, and inventory.

Skills

Required

  • Proficient in using hand tools and power tools
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Proficient with laptops or computers in Windows or Mac environments
  • Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and an eagerness to learn
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs., sitting, standing, walking, and frequent use of hands for grasping tools and data entry
  • Ability to read and speak fluent English
  • Ability to see, read and interpret documents such as governmental regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions or schematics
  • Foundational understanding of basic electricity theory
  • Ability to safely use a DVOM for various circuit measurements
  • Reading and leveraging electrical schematics as a diagnostic resource
  • Understanding the risks involved with high voltage systems and the ability to safely power them down and work on them using appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE)
  • Proficient in fundamental chassis service, including the ability to mount and balance tires, perform vehicle alignments, and replace brake system components
  • Ability to diagnose mechanical suspension components
  • Ability to service vehicle thermal systems
  • Ability to perform a coolant drain-and-fill
  • Safely handle refrigerant with a 609 certification
  • Comprehensive understanding of the entire A/C system and its components

Nice to have

  • Ability to drive a non-commercial truck and trailer is preferred
  • Hands-on work experience in an automotive shop is highly preferred
  • A background in electric vehicle (EV) or hybrid repair is considered a plus
  • Experience in start-up environments is preferred
  • Experience with parts departments, billing, and work order management systems is preferred
  • Deep understanding of automotive electronics, including CAN and LIN networks
  • Ability to diagnose complex faults and perform wiring repairs according to manufacturer standards
  • Diagnose complex high voltage faults related to charging, isolation, and interlock loop issues using the manufacturer’s diagnostic processes
  • Progress to repairing advanced vehicle dynamic issues related to traction control, ABS, and power steering
  • Adept at resolving complex drivability concerns such as Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH)
