This role is for a hands-on Field Service Technician responsible for diagnosing and repairing Rivian vehicles. The technician will perform repairs at service centers or customer locations, manage parts, and ensure quality work. The role requires proficiency in hand and power tools, basic electrical and high voltage systems, chassis, brakes, suspension, and thermal systems. Experience with EVs is a plus.

What you'd actually do

  1. Perform or assist with assigned vehicle diagnosis, repairs, installations, and inspections, whether at a service center or in the field directly at customer homes, businesses, or other convenient locations.
  2. Identify and explain the Rivian product line, EV framework, tools, and accessories.
  3. Utilize available technical resources to follow Rivian repair procedures efficiently without compromising quality or safety.
  4. Conduct road tests to ensure the quality of repairs.
  5. Manage necessary parts operations, including ordering, receiving, shipping, and inventory.

Skills

Required

  • High School Diploma, GED, or other recognized high school equivalency credential preferred
  • Proficient in using hand tools and power tools
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to drive a non-commercial truck and trailer is preferred
  • Ability to perform physical tasks such as lifting up to 50 lbs., sitting, standing, walking, and frequent use of hands for grasping tools and data entry
  • Ability to read and speak fluent English
  • Ability to see, read and interpret documents such as governmental regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions or schematics
  • Low Voltage & Electrical Systems: foundational understanding of basic electricity theory, safely use a DVOM, reading and leveraging electrical schematics
  • High Voltage Systems: understanding risks, ability to safely power down and work on them using appropriate PPE
  • Chassis, Brakes & Suspension: proficient in fundamental chassis service, mount and balance tires, perform vehicle alignments, replace brake system components
  • Thermal Systems: service vehicle thermal systems, coolant drain-and-fill, safely handle refrigerant with a 609 certification

Nice to have

  • Ability to drive a non-commercial truck and trailer
  • A background in electric vehicle (EV) or hybrid repair
  • Experience in start-up environments
  • Experience with parts departments, billing, and work order management systems
  • Advanced candidates will demonstrate a deep understanding of automotive electronics, including CAN and LIN networks, and possess the ability to diagnose complex faults and perform wiring repairs according to manufacturer standards.
  • Highly skilled technicians will be capable of diagnosing complex high voltage faults related to charging, isolation, and interlock loop issues using the manufacturer’s diagnostic processes.
  • The role requires the ability to diagnose mechanical suspension components and progress to repairing advanced vehicle dynamic issues related to traction control, ABS, and power steering.
  • Top-tier candidates will be adept at resolving complex drivability concerns such as Noise, Vibration, and Harshness (NVH).
  • A comprehensive understanding of the entire A/C system and its components is expected.
  • An ideal candidate will have experience with advanced diagnostics and repair of vehicle thermal management systems, including heat pumps and battery thermal management.
