This role is for a Field Service Technician at Rivian, focusing on the maintenance and repair of electric vehicles. Responsibilities include vehicle diagnosis, repairs, installations, inspections, customer communication, and parts management. The role requires proficiency with tools, understanding of electrical and high-voltage systems, and a customer-first approach. Experience in automotive repair, especially with EVs, is highly preferred.

What you'd actually do

  1. Perform or assist with assigned vehicle diagnosis, repairs, installations, and inspections, whether at a service center or in the field directly at customer homes, businesses, or other convenient locations.
  2. Identify and explain the Rivian product line, EV framework, tools, and accessories.
  3. Utilize available technical resources to follow Rivian repair procedures efficiently without compromising quality or safety.
  4. Conduct road tests to ensure the quality of repairs.
  5. Manage necessary parts operations, including ordering, receiving, shipping, and inventory.

Skills

Required

  • High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
  • Proficient in using hand tools and power tools
  • Valid driver’s license and clean driving record
  • Ability to drive a non-commercial truck and trailer
  • Proficient with laptops or computers in Windows or Mac environments
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Eagerness to learn
  • Ability to perform physical tasks (lifting up to 50 lbs., sitting, standing, walking, etc.)
  • Ability to read and speak fluent English
  • Ability to see, read and interpret documents (regulations, instructions, schematics)
  • Foundational understanding of basic electricity theory
  • Ability to safely use a DVOM
  • Proficiency in reading electrical schematics
  • Understanding of high voltage systems risks and safe power-down procedures
  • Proficient in fundamental chassis service
  • Ability to mount and balance tires
  • Ability to perform vehicle alignments
  • Ability to replace brake system components

Nice to have

  • Experience in automotive, process standardization, continuous improvement, and managing escalations
  • Experience in start-up environments
  • Experience with parts departments, billing, and work order management systems
  • Deep understanding of automotive electronics, including CAN and LIN networks
  • Ability to diagnose complex faults and perform wiring repairs
  • Ability to diagnose complex high voltage faults related to charging, isolation, and interlock loop issues
  • A background in electric vehicle (EV) or hybrid repair
  • Recent automotive graduate
