Flight Test Engineer - Discovery

Anduril Industries, a defense technology company, is seeking a Flight Test Engineer for its Discovery business line. The role involves supporting various programs by contributing technical expertise and collaborating with program leadership, supporting companies, and government partners. The engineer will conduct full system level development testing, new aircraft development, and sub-component qualification testing. Responsibilities include determining T&E approaches, guiding and performing test activities, system-level T&E of hardware and software, resource planning, conducting ground and flight testing, process improvement, generating technical test plans, leading test execution at ranges, discussing test results with Engineering, and performing initial test data analysis. The role requires a bachelor's degree, 4-10+ years of test engineering experience, a Top Secret clearance, and the ability to travel. Experience producing customer-facing test deliverables, acting as a test conductor/director, understanding engineering concepts, knowledge of test execution safety and risk management, ability to learn quickly and solve problems, and familiarity with the National Airspace System and UAS rules are also required. Preferred qualifications include experience with the DoD/IC, FPV drones, prior unmanned drone experience, and proficiency with data analysis tools like Python or MATLAB, and Linux.

What you'd actually do

  1. As a Test and Evaluation (T&E) engineer, under minimal supervision, you will determine and develop various approaches to achieve T&E goals and help guide and perform the completion of test activities.
  2. Test duties include system level T&E of hardware and software with emphasis placed on resource planning, conducting ground and flight testing, process improvement/development and generating technical test plans for review.
  3. Lead execution of testing of testing at private and government owned test ranges
  4. Work closely with Engineering to discuss test results, to include collected data and observations.
  5. Collect and perform initial test data analysis for the system under test.

Skills

Required

  • bachelor's degree or a related technical discipline
  • 4-10+ years test engineering experience
  • Current Top Secret Secret Security Clearance
  • Ability to travel up to 35% of the time
  • Experience producing customer facing test deliverables (test plans, flight readiness reviews, data analysis, test reports, etc.)
  • Experience as a test conductor and/or test director, or similar (i.e. Range events in the military)
  • Complete understanding of engineering concepts, principles, codes, and theory
  • Expansive knowledge of principles, concepts, theory, and practices in related technical specialties
  • General knowledge of test execution safety and risk management
  • Ability to understand new concepts quickly and solve problems across a variety of engineering areas
  • Previous expertise and working knowledge of the National Airspace System and UAS operating rules and regulations
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a multi-disciplinary team

Nice to have

  • Experience working with the Department of Defense (DoD) and/or the Intelligence Community
  • Experience working with First Person View (FPV) drones
  • Prior unmanned drone or small UAS experience
  • Professional experience utilizing data analysis tools or programming languages (Python, MATLAB, etc)
  • Experience with Linux Operating Systems
