Anduril Industries is a defense technology company seeking a Flight Test Engineer to plan, execute, and report on flight test and evaluation activities for new aircraft development. The role involves testing electronics, avionics, propulsion, and flight characteristics, with a focus on system and sub-system level testing of hardware and software. The engineer will support or lead test planning, establish success measures, conduct tests, analyze performance, and produce reports. Experience with UAS operating rules, test protocols, data analysis, and various UAS technologies is required, along with the ability to obtain UK security clearance.

What you'd actually do

  1. As a Flight Test Engineer you will determine and develop various approaches to achieve T&E goals and help guide and perform the completion of test activities.
  2. This position will focus heavily on new aircraft development, with an emphasis in electronics, avionics, propulsion, flight characteristics, rugged design, and quality at scale.
  3. Test duties include system and sub-system level T&E of hardware and software. As part of this process you will support or lead test planning, establish test measures of success, conduct test (ground and flight), analyze test performance, and produce high quality reports to inform future development.

Skills

Required

  • Master's degree in an applicable field of engineering and 3+ years' flight test experience
  • Expertise and working knowledge of UAS operating rules and regulations in the UK
  • Experience in designing and executing rigorous test protocols for new and developmental systems
  • skillful in data analysis
  • Thorough understanding of COTS and bespoke UAS technologies
  • Expertise of internal combustion, electric and/or hybrid powertrains
  • Knowledge of flight control systems and flight dynamics of small, medium and/or large rotorcraft
  • Knowledge of EO/IR/Lidar sensor payloads and the intricacies required to plan and execute tests when deployed on maneuverable rotorcraft
  • An understanding of and passion for engineering quality concepts, principles, codes and experience demonstrating a broad application of those concepts
  • Quick learner with the capacity to accurately implement new concepts and effectively organize, schedule and manage multiple project phases
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with strong interpersonal abilities
  • Comfortable in a dynamic, team-oriented environment performing complex tasks in one or more engineering areas
  • Flexibility to work additional hours and travel for testing activities as required by the business
  • Valid driver's license
  • Ability to immediately obtain and maintain a UK security clearance

Nice to have

  • Formal T&E training at a recognized Test Pilot School
  • Experience within developmental and operational test & evaluation organizations
  • Direct experience with UAS design or operational deployment
  • Advanced knowledge of UAV testing methodologies and data analysis
  • Hold UK General VLOS Certificate
  • Remote pilot experience on VTOL UAS
  • Ability to travel up to 50% of the time
  • Familiarity with programming languages such as Go, Java, C++, Python, JavaScript, etc
