General Maintenance Technician

This role is for a Facilities Maintenance Technician at Northrop Grumman. Responsibilities include performing routine inspections and general maintenance on building equipment, working with outside contractors, and executing repair and maintenance tasks across various trades like electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and HVAC. The technician will also operate plant-yard equipment, manage a CMMS database, conduct EHS checks, and respond to emergency maintenance calls. Basic qualifications include a High School Diploma, 2 years of experience in facilities maintenance, and the ability to obtain a security clearance. Preferred qualifications include technical training in maintenance trades and experience with commercial HVAC and fire alarm systems.

What you'd actually do

  1. Perform routine, periodic, and special inspections to prevent equipment and facility breakdowns.
  2. Execute maintenance, repair, and installation tasks in electrical, plumbing, carpentry, HVAC, painting, flooring, raised‑floors, structural components, and general building elements.
  3. Operate plant‑yard equipment such as skid steers, scissor lifts, boom lifts, and other powered aerial or material‑handling devices when required.
  4. Update the Preventive‑Maintenance database and complete work orders on time using a CMMS (e.g., Maximo, Maintenance Connection).
  5. Conduct EHS checks (fire extinguishers, eye‑wash stations, emergency lighting).

Skills

Required

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2 years’ experience in Facilities Maintenance
  • U.S. Citizenship with the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government security clearance
  • Experience reading blueprints, schematics, wiring diagrams, drawings, and specifications
  • Experience with hand/power tools and modular office‑furniture assembly/disassembly
  • Ability to follow written instruction and complete documentation associated with facility maintenance
  • Experience in testing, inspecting, troubleshooting, and repair of machinery and/or equipment
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs to include Word, Excel, Outlook
  • Experience in customer‑service, written/oral communication, and teamwork skills
  • Valid Driver’s License

Nice to have

  • Technical training or Certifications
  • Knowledge of maintenance trades: carpentry, plumbing, painting, machine and equipment repair, electrical and HVAC systems
  • Experience with commercial HVAC, fire‑alarm systems, and SCIF construction
  • OSHA certification or training
  • Basic networking/cabling knowledge
  • Self-starter and able to work independently or in a team environment
