General Manager for Uber Retail in Japan, responsible for strategy, operations, and P&L. What you'd actually do

  1. Set and own the Japan Retail vision and strategy by translating global priorities into a locally relevant strategy across short-, mid-, and long-term horizons, informed by deep market, customer and competitive insights.
  2. Identity step-change growth opportunities for Japan - everything from new business models to new ways to engage consumers.
  3. Own the full-country P&L for Japan Retail, driving sustainable revenue growth and EBITDA performance through disciplined financial planning and investment prioritization.
  4. Build, lead, and develop a high-performing commercial and operations organization, fostering strong culture, talent development, and execution excellence across direct and matrixed teams.
  5. Lead commercial acquisition and account management teams to secure, renew, and grow global, enterprise, and local retailer partnerships; negotiate sustainable commercial agreements; and unlock incremental value through ongoing investment and operational improvement opportunities.

Skills

Required

  • 15+ years of professional work experience in a related field (startup, tech, operations, strategy) in a GM-equivalent role
  • Experience building and leading large teams, including sales and/or commercial teams
  • A track record of business growth and innovation, particularly in the context of the JP market
  • A bias to execution, with the ability to get into the weeds of the day-to-day operations (e.g. deal negotiations, operational performance, product planning, etc.)
  • Strong analytical capabilities
  • Strong communication skills (both written and verbal)
  • Business proficiency in English
  • Business proficiency in Japanese
