Google is seeking an Engineering Manager for their Geo Auto Forward Deployed Engineering team in Munich, Germany. This role involves leading a team of Technical Solutions Consultants and managing relationships with automotive partners to integrate Google Maps and Automotive SDKs into vehicles. The manager will oversee product deployment, drive issue resolution, develop processes, and represent partner requirements to inform product development. The role requires experience in the automotive industry, managing technical teams, and software development.

What you'd actually do

  1. Lead global Technical Solutions Consultant (TSC) teams and automotive partners as they integrate Google Maps and Automotive Software Development Kits (SDK) across complex domains including Automotive OS platforms, Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) components, and in-vehicle infotainment.
  2. Manage the automotive partner relationship and be responsible for driving issue resolutions including bugs, missing functionality, and feature requests.
  3. Develop, operate and improve processes that allow Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE) to expand across the automotive industry over multiple complex automotive products.
  4. Represent the requirements, constraints and road map of automotive partners to inform product development.
  5. Work closely with teams across the Geo Auto, Geo Developer, and Android organizations to ensure Google provides a uniform and complete automotive solution.

Skills

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, a related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
  • 7 years of experience working in the Automotive industry, leading new products from inception to launch.
  • 5 years of experience managing a technical, customer-facing team.
  • Experience in software development (e.g., Java, C++, Python).

Nice to have

  • Master’s degree or PhD.
  • Experience with Maps products and services.
  • Experience working with enterprise stakeholders (i.e., automakers).
  • Experience collaborating effectively across time zones.
  • Ability to deliver results in a complex, matrixed environment and drive alignment across cross-functional stakeholders.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and the ability to represent complex business or technical matters internally and externally.
