Joby Aviation is seeking a Ground Support Equipment Integration Engineer to develop and integrate off-aircraft charging and thermal conditioning equipment for their VTOL electric aircraft. Responsibilities include creating integration plans, selecting components, assisting with assembly, leading root cause analysis, scripting routines, creating documentation, and supporting testing and certification. Requires strong fundamentals in electrical and mechanical engineering, understanding of circuits, communication protocols, C/C++, Python, CAD, schematics, lab equipment, and embedded systems programming. Bachelor's degree with 2+ years of experience is required.

What you'd actually do

  1. Develop an integration plan for a system consisting of electrical, mechatronic, mechanical, embedded and hydronic subsystems
  2. Select components including but not limited to sensors, interconnects, actuators, gateways and controllers that solve for cost, performance and functionality
  3. Assist in assembly and integration of prototype systems
  4. Lead root cause analysis and troubleshooting efforts for system-level failures, especially those involving interactions between hardware, firmware and software
  5. Script routines to exercise functionality of systems

Skills

Required

  • Strong fundamentals in electrical and mechanical engineering
  • Solid understanding of DC/AC circuits, signal integrity, and power electronics
  • Solid understanding of networking topologies and communication protocols (eg CAN, Modbus, RS485, Ethernet, TCP/IP, VLANS and MQTT)
  • Fluent in C/C++
  • Fluent in Python
  • Comfortable with mechanical and electrical CAD software
  • Experience reading and creating electrical schematics
  • Hands-on experience with lab equipment for testing and debugging (oscilloscopes, multimeters, data acquisition systems)
  • Familiarity with Control Systems, PLCs, or embedded systems programming for hardware control
  • Bachelor’s degree or higher with 2+ years of experience in a relevant field (including mechanical, electrical, computer and robotics / mechatronics engineering)

  • Experience with industrial automation equipment
