RTX is seeking a Senior Hardware Quality Engineer for their Precision Metal Fabrication factory in Andover, MA. The role focuses on assuring product and process quality, emphasizing Product Compliance, Customer Satisfaction, and Continuous Improvement. Responsibilities include baseline factory metrics analysis, engaging Manufacturing Defect Prevention teams, performing process walks, leading APQP initiatives, identifying supplier issues, and verifying improvement effectiveness. The position requires a STEM degree, manufacturing or quality engineering experience, process experience, RCCA implementation, and quality metrics analysis. A U.S. government issued security clearance is also required.

What you'd actually do

  1. Baseline factory metrics (Scrap, Rework, FPY, etc.), identify top drivers, forecast future demand for top drivers and identify areas of opportunity for improvement.
  2. Engage Manufacturing Defect Prevention teams to ensure alignment on top priorities (using baseline data and future forecast) to drive containment, Root Cause Analysis and associated Corrective Action Implementation.
  3. Perform process walks, operator observations, and lead manufacturing team discussions to drive process enhancements to reduce variation.
  4. Lead/Drive Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) initiatives (PFMEA, control Plans, SPC, etc.) using baseline metrics and future demand.
  5. Identify supplier escapes/issues and ensure proper containment and backflow to the Supplier Quality Management team.

Skills

Required

  • STEM degree
  • minimum of 5 years of prior relevant experience in manufacturing or quality engineering
  • Manufacturing process experience (assembly, inspection, and/or test)
  • Experience Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA) initiation / implementation
  • Quality Metrics analysis experience for Verification and Validation (V&V) of RCCA actions and impacts.
  • Experience with industry technical standards (e.g.: interpreting drawings, work instructions, Bill of Materials (BOMs), consumable materials control, process disciplines and/or tool control)
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. government issued security clearance is required.
  • U.S. citizenship is required

Nice to have

  • Defense or aerospace industry experience
  • Active government secret clearance
  • Demonstrated knowledge of key process characteristics and ability to implement effective process control techniques.
  • Previous experience managing cross functional process improvement teams with technical expertise.
  • Strong familiarity with ISO 9001 and/or AS9100 quality management systems
  • Six Sigma, ASQ Certifications
  • Proficient in the use of pareto analysis, cause/effect diagrams, process mapping
  • Able to facilitate cross-functional teams in systematic improvement activities (e.g. 6-sigma, lean manufacturing)
  • Familiarity with GD&T and technical print reading
  • Knowledge of CNC machining, sheet metal fabrication, hardware installation, and structural assembly techniques
