Harness & Interconnect Design Engineer II

This role is for a Harness & Interconnect Design Engineer II at RTX, focusing on the design and development of wire harnesses for missile programs. Responsibilities include defining system requirements, specifying connector details, overseeing electrical layout, performing electrical analysis, and managing the technical data package. The role requires experience in wire harnessing for military/aerospace applications and proficiency with CAD/PLM software.

What you'd actually do

  1. You will be responsible for identifying and deriving system requirements
  2. You be responsible for the definition of mechanical outline and construction details, connector selection and specification, mechanical and assembly drawings, oversee electrical layout, perform first order electrical analysis, and ownership of final technical data package.
  3. You will be responsible for meeting cost, schedule, quality, and performance requirements for finished product.
  4. You will interact with senior personnel on significant technical matters, often requiring coordination between cross-functional organizations and physical locations.
  5. You will be responsible for developing technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems related to the entire product life cycle including proposal, design, manufacture, integration and test of electronics and interconnect packaging solutions for multiple missile programs.

Skills

Required

  • degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics(STEM)
  • 2 years of prior relevant experience or An Advanced Degree in a related field
  • five (2) years of experience in the design and/or manufacturing of wire harnessing for military, or aerospace, or commercial applications.

Nice to have

  • 3 or more years of experience in the design and manufacturing of flex, rigid flex, round wire, RF, and/or fiber optic harnessing for military and aerospace applications
  • Demonstrated expertise with Creo Parametric (MCAD) software and Windchill (PLM).
  • Familiarity with Technical Data Package (TDP) requirements to include ASME drawing standards
  • Experience working with harness and interconnect manufacturers to support program needs and travel periodically to manufacturing facilities.
  • Demonstrated strong technical background with high technical aptitude
  • Experience with industry specifications such as IPC/WHMA-A-620, SAE AS22759, J-STD-001 MIl-PRF-31032, IPC-6013, IPC-2221, or IPC-2223
  • Demonstrated leadership and project management skills.
  • Very strong verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills when working with both technical and non-technical team members and customers.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
